MUSIC MINISTRY AT ICC

The Music Ministry at ICC has as its mission a dedication to spreading the message of justice, love, and peace through music. Music Ministry today at ICC continues a long and exciting tradition of assembly singing and participation in liturgies that are diverse and dynamic. Our primary goal, as laid out in the Constitution of the Sacred Liturgy and consistent with the aims of the Second Vatican Council, is to promote the “full, conscious and active participation” of all those assembled to worship.

ENSEMBLES

The Full Choir meets every Wednesday at 7:00. This choir forms the base for all feast days, Holy Days of obligation, etc. This group is open to all adults and high school students. There is no requirement to be able to read music, but the ability to carry a tune is a plus!

Mass Choirs serve the Saturday Vigil, 8:30 and 11:00 Masses and strive to “support, lead and enhance” the sung worship by singing with the assembly, adding harmonies and descants, and, at times, singing special choral music. All choirs meet 30 minutes prior to each Mass in the worship space for warming up and practicing music for Mass.

The Resurrection Choir provides support at our funeral Masses and services. It is not necessary to be a member of any of the other musical ensembles to take part in this beautiful and meaningful ensemble. We rehearse forty-five minutes prior to each liturgy.

Our Instrumentalists are dedicated and talented musicians whose work enhances the song of the assembly by adding color and vibrant sounds to the music. The instrumentalists rehearse separately from the choir on Wednesdays at 6 PM and with the singers during choir rehearsals and prior to Mass. Welcomed are brass, strings and woodwind players.

Cantors are both singers and leaders of congregational song. Drawn from the community, cantors possess special charisms and musical skills that, when exercised in liturgy, enrich celebrations by adding musical elements beyond the capabilities of the assembly alone. Cantors participate in periodic formation and rehearsals, including one-on-one vocal coaching.

The ICC CHILDREN’S/YOUTH CHOIR PROGRAM is in the process of being formed. The program offers participants a ministerial role in the liturgy. Open to children ages four through high school, it consists of several ensembles:

Little Angels is open to children PK (4 years old) through the First Grade. The Little Angels rehearse for 30 minutes each week learning how to cooperate in a musical ensemble, how to use their voices, how to follow directions and how to sing age-appropriate songs.

The Instrumental Ensemble is open to middle and high-school students who play brass, woodwind, or stringed instruments. The instrumentalists rehearse once per week for 45-60 minutes.

The St. Cecilia Choir is open to students who are in the 2nd Grade through High School. This group rehearses once per week and will lead music at one Mass per liturgical season. The singers are formed in using their voices to sing praise to the Lord, are afforded leadership opportunities, learn to read music, are formed in the liturgy and enhances liturgical celebrations by singing age-appropriate music.
