The Eucharist (Communion) is the source and Summit of our life as Church.  It nourishes us as Catholic Christians to be the Body and Blood of Christ.

All preparation for First Eucharist typically takes place in the second grade or later.  The preparation happens within the parish setting and experience.  It is presumed that the parents or at least one parent) who wish their child to be prepared for the Sacraments are attending Catholic Mass regularly and are attending parish religious formation or Catholic school.

Parents are the first teachers of the faith to their children.
Recognizing this gift, the parish assists parents with this role through parent and child sessions.  In the Diocese of Richmond, sacramental preparation does not take place in school. Children attending Catholic schools must receive their preparation and celebrate those sacraments for the first time in their respective parishes.

The preparation for Reconciliation will take place prior to the preparation for first Eucharist.
