Infant Baptism

This is celebrated within the context of a parish weekend liturgy several times each year. Parental preparation is required by diocesan policy and provided by the parish.

First Eucharist and First Reconciliation

*      Parents are the first and best teachers of their children and have an important role in preparing them to celebrate these sacraments for the first time.

*      Families are expected to be registered and to attend weekend liturgies in our parish.

*      Families are expected to be a part of our Family of Faith, which is our parish Christian Education program, unless the child is enrolled in a Catholic school. The family may still want to be a part of Family of Faith, which would be welcome enrichment for both our family and yours.

*      Children who attend Catholic schools receive their preparation for sacraments and celebrate those sacraments for the first time in their respective parishes. (Diocese of Richmond.)

*      Readiness is what determines whether a child should celebrate these sacraments, not age or grade, and this is discerned by the parents with the help of the catechists.

This is a single program with two parts that include both sacraments and begins in September each year.

The Sacrament of Reconciliation

This is celebrated every Saturday from 4:00 p.m. - 4:45 p.m., twice each year at communal celebrations, and any mutually convenient time by an appointment with the priest.

Confirmation

Candidates for Confirmation must have participated in the religious education program of the Parish or area Catholic School throughout the year preceding admission into the immediate preparation for Confirmation. Confirmation is then celebrated at the earliest in the Spring of the 11th year in school.

Marriage

Pre-marriage preparation is required of all couples. Couples are advised to make no firm plans for a wedding in the parish before they have met with the pastor. This meeting should be arranged at least six months before any tentative wedding date is set.

Anointing of the Sick

This sacrament is celebrated monthly at alternating liturgies, by appointment with the pastor, and in response to hospital emergency calls. Hospitals do not notify the parish when parishioners are admitted. Such is the responsibility of family members or of the individual patient. Whenever possible, the sacrament should be celebrated at the church before hospitalization.

Rite of Christian Initiation for Adults

The R.C.I.A. or the Catechumenate is a rite of the Catholic Church by which adults gradually progress in faith development to a point of readiness to be received into the Catholic Church through the sacraments of initiation celebrated at the Easter Vigil.
