First Eucharist and First Reconciliation

*       Parents are the first and best teachers of their children.

*      We reach out to our parents and resource them to prepare their  children to celebrate the Sacrament of Reconciliation and Eucharist.

*      Families are expected to be registered, participating members  of the parish, with regular attendance at weekend liturgies.

*      Families are expected to be a part of our Family of Faith formation program.

*      Who is usually in this program? Seven or eight years olds,  in second or third grade are normally ready to begin this preparation.

*      Children in the Richmond Diocese who attend Catholic school prepare for and celebrate sacraments in his or her parish.

*      Readiness is what determines whether a child should celebrate these sacraments, not age or grade, and this is discerned by the parents with the help of the catechists.

We have four sessions on Reconciliation,  at the same time the children are meeting with catechists, there are sessions for parents.  All sessions are from 7:00-8:30.

The Sacrament of Reconciliation

This is celebrated every Saturday from 4:00 p.m. - 4:45 p.m., twice each year at communal celebrations, and any mutually convenient time by an appointment with the priest.

Confirmation

Candidates for Confirmation must have participated in the religious education program of the Parish or area Catholic School throughout the year preceding admission into the immediate preparation for Confirmation. Confirmation is then celebrated at the earliest in the Spring of the 11th year in school.

Marriage

Pre-marriage preparation is required of all couples. Couples are advised to make no firm plans for a wedding in the parish before they have met with the pastor. This meeting should be arranged at least six months before any tentative wedding date is set.

Anointing of the Sick

This sacrament is celebrated at seasonal communal celebrations, by appointment with the pastor, and in response to hospital emergency calls. Hospitals do not notify the parish when parishioners are admitted. Such is the responsibility of family members or of the individual patient. Whenever possible, the sacrament should be celebrated at the church before hospitalization.

Rite of Christian Initiation for Adults

The R.C.I.A. or the Catechumenate is a rite of the Catholic Church by which adults gradually progress in faith development to a point of readiness to be received into the Catholic Church through the sacraments of initiation celebrated at the Easter Vigil.
