Family of Faith
is our parish’s all-ages, lifelong faith formation program. Family
of Faith is one part (and a very important part) of the overall
Christian formation experience in the parish, with a focus on the core
teachings of the Catholic Faith. Because faith is value-based learning
that is practiced and passed down in church, in community and most
especially in the home, the role of Family of Faith is to support
the faith formation of all households in our parish. Here’s how.
·
It’s systematic. The curriculum for Family of Faith
covers all the basics of the Catholic Faith over a 5-6 year cycle.
·
It’s for all ages. The learning and practicing process
of faith formation never stops – it’s a lifelong process. Worshiping,
learning, discussing and practicing in a faith community facilitate that
growth.
·
We learn together. At each all-ages Family of Faith
session, everyone has the same basic teaching. Take-home
materials are provided so families of all shapes and sizes may continue
reflection and activities on the topic introduced at the session. This
helps the members of a household in supporting one another in their faith
development each month.
The Family of Faith calendar for
2011-2012 includes -
·
6
monthly all-ages sessions on Sunday evenings which include a meal, an all-ages learning
experience, and age-appropriate catechesis on a common topic. This year’s
all-ages topic is Eucharist (how it has evolved, the newest changes taking
place and deepening our experience of the celebration) in coordination
with the Hearts on Fire initiative.
·
10
additional Sunday morning sessions for PreK to Grade 8 which focus on the weekly gospel.
·
10
additional sessions for Grades 9-12 will be added this year on Sunday evenings.
We
hope you and your family will come be a part of our parish “Family
of Faith.”
