We are often tempted by indifference.  What day goes by without news reports of refugees in crises, immigration turmoil, crime in our cities near and far…the list goes on.  What can we do to avoid being caught up in this distress and powerlessness?  We can pray.  Pray in communion with the Church in our world and the Church in heaven.  Let us not underestimate the power of so many voices united in prayer!  Next, we can help by acts of reaching out to both those near and far through the many charitable opportunities…either in the Hampton area or our many opportunities right here at Immaculate Conception.   Next, the suffering of others is a call to conversion, since their needs remind us of uncertainty of our own life and our dependence on God and our community.  When we ask God’s grace and accept our own limitations, we will trust in the infinite possibilities which God’s love holds out to us.  (adapted from Lent: A Time of Grace which takes from writings of Pope Francis)
