We are a community of imperfect men and women who try to be faithful to the promises of our baptism by living the gospel of Jesus Christ and gathering to give praise and thanksgiving to our God in our celebrations of Eucharist. The 560 households of our Parish represent a rich mixture of races and ethnic diversity, the married and the single and the divorced and the separated, the working and the retired, civilian and military, young people and seniors, the healthy and the infirm. Together we encourage one another to be faithful Catholics in midst of a complex and wonderful yet messy world. Our communal celebration of liturgy is very important to us; we want it truly to be the source and summit of our spiritual lives. Hospitality is a prerequisite for the celebration of Eucharist; visitors and guest from other parishes and other diocesan churches are cordially welcomed. Your presence with us for Eucharist is a witness to your faith and thereby strengthens our faith. Welcome! Vatican Council II called all Catholics to full, active, conscious participation in the celebration of the Eucharist. Joining our voices in communal sung prayer, attending to the proclamation of the sacred scriptures, and properly exercising the various liturgical ministries during the liturgy is normative at Immaculate Conception. Most households within our parish have embraced Tithing as an act of faith. We expect each wage-earner to give five percent of one's income to the church for the support of our ministries, and five percent to another selected charitable or humanitarian cause. Fellowship is very important to us; after each of our parish liturgies we set aside time to enjoy one another's company within the commons area of our building. Because we all live by such rushed and hectic schedules, these times of fellowship among parishioners before and after liturgy strengthen the bonds of community. |
